Spring:

Spring tends to come a little earlier in DC. Visiting in late March or early April (depending on weather) you would be right on time with the beautiful Cherry Blossoms festival. Cherry Blossom celebrates the friendship between the United States and Japan. It originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship between the two nations. Thousands of cherry trees around the Tidal Basin bloom every spring, creating striking scenery of pink and white flowers. During this time there is also several other cultural events taking place on the National Mall perfect for families and smaller groups to enjoy.

Summer:

Should you visit in the summer DC's newly developed wharf is a great destination. The wharf has been through a multi-million-dollar re-development and now serves as a major DC attraction with residential and office buildings as well as hotels, shops, and parks. It’s also the home of the city’s historic fish market and has a wide variety of restaurants and dining options to offer. From here you can also take a public cruise (at additional cost) and see the DC attractions from the vantage point of the Potomac River

Fall:

Fall in the Capitol is a pleasant and mild experience (not always but often) The National Mall hosts events such as the World Culture Festival celebrating diversity and unity through global music, dance, arts and food. Visiting for or around Veterans' Day is always an experience sometimes of mixed feelings. Pay a visit to the majestic National World War II Memorial which honors 16 million service men and woman who served overseas during the time. You may also want to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with the Memorial Wall as well as the Korean War Veterans Memorial.  There is also an abundance of foliage that can been seen in and around DC.

Winter:

Holiday season in DC is a spectacular experience. During the holiday season you can see the National Christmas Tree which a large evergreen tree is located near the White House in the northeast quadrant of the Ellipse. There is also the National Menorah to view which has become an international symbol for religious freedom. Other festive attractions during this time of year are a visit to United States Botanic Garden with its' many holidays inspired displays and botanic

exhibitions. Another suggestion is checking out the decorations at the Willard along with afternoon tea (at additional cost)  or a stroll in one of the many Christmas markets.

Perhaps most importantly there is a wide variety of set attractions ALL – YEAR – AROUND  that are ALWAYS worth visiting. The Smithsonian Intuitions on the National Mall such as the Air & Space Museum, African American History & Culture, American History Museum, American Art Museum, Museum of American Indian, Museum of Natural History and the National Zoo to name a few. Some if them do require timed entry but for individual visitors they are free of charge. Museums are also great for escaping potential rain or excessive heat.  The Monuments and memorials of the National Mall are also attractions that can be enjoyed all year around. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, there is a lot that can be seen by foot from the Washington Monument to Lincoln and Jefferson along with the Tidal Basin and the reflecting pool.
